SCOPE & APPLICATION ------------------- This is intended to be used along with : Installing Oracle Applications, Release 11i (Oct 2000) Upgrading Oracle Applications, Release 11i (Oct 2000) Oracle Applications Release 11i Release 11.5.2 (October 2000) Release Notes Updated November 17, 2000) Oracle Applications Installation Update Notes Release 11i which can be obtained on Metalink by clicking on the following links: Technical Libraries -> Applications -> Applications Core Technology Oracle Applications Installation and Configuration What to check after an 11i install/upgrade has failed ----------------------------- #1. If you have done the install more than once, make sure you follow note 110372.1 (unix) or note 107523.1 (NT) before restarting the installer. #2. Make sure that DOMAIN, TERM, and DISPLAY is set prior to do the install. - On HP DOMAIN, TERM, and DISPLAY variables must be set within the .login or .profile files of the Oracle and Applmgr users. - DISPLAY needs to be set to ":0.0" (please see note 2026208.6 ) #3. If on Unix make sure xhost is set (see note 111161.1 and note 2113863.6 ) #4. TEMP , TMP , and TMPDIR must be set to : - Most OS requires 650 megs - HP requires 1.2gig (11.5.1) and 2.3gig (11.5.2) - IBM AIX and Compaq true 64 requires 1.5gig #5. You must run the installer as root. (reference Installing Oracle Application 11i pg.3-18) ONLY EXCEPTION : If you are using one user install (where you would only use oracle to install both $APPL_TOP and $ORACLE_HOME the user you would be using (such as Oracle)would work. #6. If you are installing on a system that has an existing Oracle installation which has been installed using the Oracle Universal Installer, then you might have some permission problems. The Oracle Universal Installer creates a file called oraInst.loc in the /var/opt/oracle or /etc directory which contains the $PATH to your 'software inventory'. The account you are using to install must have WRITE permissions in this directory. If it doesn't then the Rapidwiz will be unable to start the Oracle Universal Installer (without giving any error. [ref note 112659.1 ] - The command to change permission is : chmod ### Where # equals if you want the owner, group, or other to have read write execute permissions. #7. Make sure you are using the latest software version for 11i , the following is part number and title of the software you should be using : Compaq Tru64 Unix: A85801-01 Oracle Applications Release 11i CD Pack v3 for Compaq Tru64 UNIX HP-UX: A85807-01 Oracle Applications Release 11i CD Pack v3 for HP-UX (only available for HP 11) IBM AIX : A85802-01 Oracle Applications Release 11i CD Pack v3 for AIX-Based Systems Microsoft Windows NT : A85763-01 Oracle Applications Release 11i CD Pack v2 for MS Windows NT Sun SPARC Solaris : A85762-01 Oracle Applications Release 11i CD Pack v2 for Sun SPARC Solaris #8. Oracle and applmgr must belong to the DBA group ( this group can be named anything also long as both belong to the same group) #9. If you think your installer is hung please review note 99252.1 #10. Check for any errors in the InstallActions.log which can be found in the /oraInventory/logs directory or in the config.txt file. #11. If you notice that the Application files are not installed when doing a multi-user single node install. You also notice that the Installer creates the ORACLE_HOME but does not create the APPL_TOP. Please review note 113090.1 #12. If this is an upgrade and you receive an error : ORA 955: is already used by an existing object please review note 113973.1 #13.
